Tue 17th March - A Sober St Paddys!?

Happy St Paddy’s Day! This will be one sober St Paddy’s for us – boohoo!! We’re all up early and my leg is still killing me – argh – I have to hobble down the stairs with my huge rucksack like a right old woman…..we have some brekkie to go and wait for the coach to arrive. We dump our bags on the bus and the wee old bus driver ticks us off his list and its away we go.
Man alive! I cannot believe how boring this bus driver is!! He’s about 110 years old and gives us some rubbish commentary every second of the journey….he prattles on about anything and everything we pass – seriously, even the trees got a look in. It all kicks off though when he goes to park up for our 15minute break. He’s too busy lecturing us about how we better not be longer than 15mins, as he WILL leave us behind, that he actually scrapes a parked car – hahahaha – revenge is sweet!!
Luckily, we change drivers at Lake Tekapo – a massive beautiful lake – where we stop for lunch and this guy is oh so much better. He points out some various interesting facts but knows when to shut up and leave us to our books/mp3 players.
It takes a total of 8hrs to get to Queenstown, which sounds really long, but the scenery has been magnificent that I didn’t mind it one bit. We get dropped off in the middle of Queenstown and we take the 10min walk to the YHA hostel on the lakeside. We’re all in a dorm room and it’s…….STINKING!!!!!!!!!! Ugh, someone in there reeks of BO and I’m hating it……I dive into the shower and want to get cracking with the job hunt. It’s a lovely sunny evening, but a tad nippy so we grab our hoodies and go see if there are any notices up in the pubs and restaurants.
After a look around town, we all go a bit quiet. As it’s Paddy’s Day, it aint a good idea to ask in pubs but we cant really see any notices up in any shops…..hmmmm…..anxious times ahead methinks……but there are a few agencies to try so fingers crossed for tomorrow. We go back to the smelly room and I’m so thankful that we’re changing rooms for tomorrow nite – ugh – it is minging. Oh and plus there is sooooooooo much snoring in the room – particularly from the fat Swiss dude after his st paddy’s day sesh – raaaaaaaaa!! I get no sleep as I can’t find my ear plugs and get even more depressed. Let’s hope tomorrow brings good news.
