It’s a fairly late start, with Dave and me heading out to Darling harbour for 11ish to meet the MacNiven’s! Another wee reunion!! Funnily enough, Janet and Leroy are over seeing Lynne and Stephen in Canberra and they just so happen to be in Sydney the same time as us!
We meet at the Aquarium and have a good ol chinwag about our travels and what’s happening back home. Leroy is very engrossed with his new video camera toy and takes a few bits of footage to show the parental at home – haha! Lynne decides to freak me out and say that there have been 2 shark attacks in Sydney, all within the past month – argh!! We’re supposed to be going snorkelling later with Matt and Ryan. Argh!!! I’m really not up for that now……damn pesky sharks!!!
After a few photos around the harbour, we say our goodbyes and its back to the hostel to get our beach stuff together. Again, we get the half hour ferry to Manly and meet Ryan in a cab. He was supposed to pick us up in Matt’s Lamborghini (Nissan…..) but wires have been crossed so that aint happening……but Ryan pays for the cab so it’s all good! Random fact here, all taxis in Sydney have got recording equipment and surveillance in their cabs in case anything kicks off – so it’s used in court and stuff!! Mental eh!?
We get to the beach and it aint that big, but apparently, this is the place to be for snorkelling and diving. I’m still a bit freaked out bout sharks – so decide to let the boys go for it. They all try to persuade me to go in, saying that its only dodgy at dawn and dusk but I’m happy just sunning myself….honest!!! I’ll do it in Barbados! Haha.
Matt and his girlfriend turn up and then a tired Symonds does – poor thing, he’s been at work all day whereas the rest of us have had a nice lie-in and a chillaxing day! As it’s off to New Zealand tomoz, they decide to take us to this funky bar on the waterfront – it’s ‘the’ place to be on a Sunday – the Wharf bar I think its called – and it’s heaving, full of the beautiful people of Manly. I’m feeling severely underdressed in my scabby beach clothes!! For dinner, we end up scoffing a huge steak which is on offer at Ivanhoes – man alive, I have never been so stuffed!!! IT WAS MASSIVE and worked out to be about £6. Wicked stuff!
It’s a really early start for us tomoz, so we head back around 9pm again, saying our goodbyes to everyone. Great to see them all but such a shame we aint here for longer – bring on Kiwi land!
