Another day off! Yay! It’s so good waking up at a normal hour of the day instead of 5.50am. Dave and I have to let the tax office know our change of address – they don’t do that over the phone unfortunately, so we have to go into Alexandra and sort it out at the post office – what a faff! It’s hitchhiking time again, so off we go with our piece of cardboard and within half an hour we get a lift! Whoohooo!! It always pleases me that they’re people out there, willing to pick hitchhikers up. This time it’s a woman who actually moved to NZ from Lancaster 20 years ago! Those nice Brits keep picking us up!
We do the whole natter thing about our travels and that passes the time to get to Alexandra. Dave and I head for the post office and get served by a right grumpy bint of a woman. She starts moaning that we have to provide photocopies of our documents and that we should’ve bought that with us……..erm…..the post office in Christchurch photocopied them for us……….but no, this bint sends us elsewhere to get copies of our passport and driving licence – rage!! Later, I find out that Aaron got served from a nice woman and she did the copying there in the post office – pah!
Anyhoo, we head to the Tourist information centre as Dave wants some maps to do some walking. We get served by this uber helpful guy and we actually can’t get away from him as he keeps coming up with other walks to do! Bless him! There’s a wee museum which tells us about the gold rush in this area and other stuff I didn’t read….it got a bit boring to be fair! We end up bumping into loads of people from work in Alexandra as well – must be the place to be on your day off! Haha!
We get a lift back to the Commercial from Deaf Tom from work! He’s this old dude that helps with the machine at the pack house – well, I actually think he just stands there loading up the wee sticker machine and speeds the damn thing up!! Anyhoo, he actually travels around New Zealand every year and works in various pack houses. He’s got this double decker bus that he has done up to act as a mobile home – how random! He’s deaf as a post which becomes apparent when I try to strike up a convo from the back seat….he keeps turning his head around to look at me, so he can hear me from the back seat – errrrr hello!? Watch the road matey!! So I keep my mouth shut and let Dave do the talking!
After getting some provisions from the supermarket, it’s back to the hostel and make sure our smocks are all cleansed and ready for tomorrow!
