Sat 28th Feb - Oz here we come!

I am hating all these early starts…..again, so dazed and confused. Also, it aint much fun negotiating your way out of a huge bunkbed (and it doesn’t even have a proper ladder – just a series of crisscross metal bits) in the pitch black and trying not to wake up the rest of the sleeping peeps in the room – eeek!! But hey, we manage to get out of there in one piece and meet our minibus driver.
We’ve all decided to wear our white English footie tops to surprise Trent n Lucy in Perth and show them what hooligans we really are!! Haha – we look a right bunch!! We’re the first to check in at the airport and we go and chill out in the departure lounge before our flight at 8.30am. Slight drama when I put my bag through the xray machine at security (this happens really late on, right at the gate before you board the plane) and the security peeps ask if I have scissors in my bag…..I’m like ‘errr….i shouldn’t have, maybe its my tweezers or summat in my makeup bag’ so I unpack it and show them…..oooopsie…….the stupid doofus that I am has left the mini first aid kit in my hand luggage – raaaaaaaaaa – avec scissors to help cut bandages and plasters. What an idiot!! Dave has the slow burn of rage in his eyes as that’s a pair of scissors he aint seeing again…..correct me if I’m wrong but they don’t cost much to replace and I have another pair in the sterile first aid kit in the main luggage – I grovel for ages, apologising about being a complete tool but he still carries on in a silent huff about these fecking scissors - raaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!
The flight takes off on time and it’s a nice comfy 6hr flight. Even the hostesses are commenting on our tops and having some banter with us – apparently Danni Minogue was a right bitch to the Qantas crew and did the whole ‘do you know who I am?’ crap – interesting huh!?
The entertainment system doesn’t work for the first hour but they just bring out the food early, which is fine by us as we’re starving yet again. Oh and I get to have WINE – at long last!!!!!!! I even decide to go for the sparkling option – we’re in celebratory mode, leaving Asia and no more squatty loos!!! I end up watching The Wrestler – pretty good performance by ol Mickey Rourke - and some good ol Fawlty Towers (the one with the hotel inspector – what a hoot!)
We get off the plane at 3pm ish and I’m getting all excited bout seeing Trent n Lucy – whoopwhoop!!!! It’s a bit of a palaver after we collect our baggage though, as we brought our beachmats with us – anything wooden or straw based in your luggage has to be declared – mental eh!? The quarantine / customs dude humours us and checks our beach-mats over thoroughly. He was good chat surprisingly, like the rest of the immigration peeps – not like every other country we’ve been too – stoney faced grumpers!! We walk through and there they are, laughing their asses off at our outfits!! Although Lucy is Scottish and said we had to take them off ASAP – haha!
Perth is baking hot – a nice dry heat – and we get driven to their bungalow on the suburbs of Perth. It’s a lovely place and made us feel so at home. After a quick shower and change, we get informed that we’re in for a treat….we’re having an Ozzie BARBIE!!! Whoohooo – we heart BBQ’s!!!! Just what I was hoping for – even more excitement follows and we head to the nearest Bottle Shop – that’s their version of an off-licence! Apparently the supermarkets don’t stock drink, only these Bottle Shops – and some of these joints are blimming drive-thru!?!? How wrong is that?!?!?
We get a quick tour of the city – it’s gorgeous and surrounds a massive lake (or was it the sea??? I cant remember!) with a huge city centre park in the middle of it – just like Central Park. I sooooooooo want to emigrate here!! It’s like Edinburgh but without the history and the crap weather! Haha. We get back to Guppy Mansions and start sorting out the food for the BBQ. Lucy and I are on the wine – man I’ve missed it! We get told the plans for our week – we’ll do some shopping in the city tomorrow, off on Trent’s dad’s boat on Monday for 2 nites to do some fishing, see a winery and do winetasting (high 5!) and generally be beach bums!!! YAY!!! I sooooooo can’t wait!!
The BBQ is a feast! We enjoy fresh crabs, garlic prawns – ‘put another shrimp on the barbie!’, some kind of fish – whiting maybe – homemade burgers and proper good chops – All served with gorgeous salad!! Wow, we are stuffed and so glad that we’re back onto Western food! We chat about all our adventures and show them a bit of a photo slideshow – we know they were bored but hey, its good to show off once in a while! Pretty knackered, so we hit the sack around 1am looking forward to a lie in!
