Tue 17th - Fri 20th Feb - Island Bliss!

Yay – the drugs worked and I’m feeling so much better on the Tuesday! So I decide to brave the beach – what a trek it is….5secs from my beach hut door – this is the life! Eve and I regularly spend most of the days at Silvery Moon lounging on the beach and rifling through lots of books and girlie mags! The boys are doing their best Bear Grylls and Survivor impressions by ‘hunting’ for coconuts and going on treks around the tiny resort. They also become some kind of lazy hibernating animals come afternoon time and they all skulk away to their hammocks – which are nicely hung on your beach hut veranda!!
Wednesday sees our first Tropical storm which was quite exciting…..we got to wear our waterproofs for the first time this holiday!! We woke up to the rain lashing down on our wee huts and had to sit outside undercover for breakfast, watching the grey clouds over the sea – argh – I want sun as I’m recovered from my cold!! Boo!! It doesn’t last long and before we know it, the sun is out shining again. The owners are busy prepping for our beach BBQ which we’re very excited about – there is a big ass fish on display and the seating area looks well funky on the beach. Beach mats and throw cushions splayed on the floor around little tables – I luv it!! We head for the BBQ at 7ish and meet some other holidaymakers – there’s a couple from Sweden - “Thelma and Jacob”, a Swiss woman who was very friendly but unfortunately I noticed her hairy armpits……so very European –ugh!!!, another Swiss dude and this American guy called Josh, who kept going into a weird Thai / American accent when speaking to the locals….all very random. The beer was flowing and the food was GORGEOUS –there was even potato salad – yay, some normal carbs! Haha!
As more beer flowed, the owners started to join in and before we knew it, they had bought out tequila.......oh no…….a few shots were downed and the games began! There were a fair few rounds of limbo (with a fire round included….the danger round!), then the boys were presented with a plate of flour….all very interesting…..they had to fish around for the Thai pennies which were hidden within the flour – haha! Eve and I definitely were right in staying out of that game – they were COVERED in flour which was so hilarious to watch!! Stamp on the balloon game was also played – not so good if you’re afraid of balloons – and then to top off the night, we end it with releasing a Lucky Lantern. We all had to write a message on this lantern and then we release it into the sky like a mini hot air balloon – a lot of the messages included thanks to our previous work for laying us off and giving us the chance to be beach bums in Thailand – haha!! Such a good night…..oh and we were allowed to stay up til after 1am that nite!!
As we wound down to our departure day, we noticed that our train tickets onward to Butterworth (Malaysia) were booked on the wrong day – argh!!! Dave had the unfortunate task of trying to rectify that but as always, was given the run around and getting told to go speak to so-and-so or turn up at the ferry on the day and ask about it. UGH! No one wants to take responsibility here!! RAGE!! We just decided to wing it on the day and make up a sob story about me (thanks) being struck down with the runs and not being able to make the train on that day….we’ll see if that works!!
We all had such a great time at Silvery Moon, the place was basic but beautiful, the food delicious and it was such a shame to say bye to Eve and Richard. No more girlie chats until I hit Perth, Oz. UGH!! Back to smelly boy chat again…..
