We’re up early at 6ish - ugh – and grab some brekkie quickly before checking out. The owners used the intercom when we left the building to say ‘Bye Hayley, Bye David, Bye Aaron’ – awwwwwwww – how nice!!!! Everyone should go stay there!!!
After some taxi bartering, we manage to get to the train station with plenty of time to spare. The boys go off in search of more breakfast and supplies for the train – they arrive back with Dunkin Donuts….good work piggies!!!
We’re booked onto First class on this train and I aint expecting much, due to previous experiences!! However, much to my surprise it’s really good!! Again, uber reclining seats and loads of legroom – great success Malaysia!! The train is over 6hrs and we have to get off the train at the border, only to get back on it after we pass through customs and immigration – weird but it worked with no hiccups!
We get to Singapore after 3pm and its…….. raining………and we’re starving yet again. What do we see? A Burger King – argh – hating all this fast food shenanigans! But we need to get some food and find out where Lavender street is for the hostel. We eventually stumble across the subway and pile on it and get to our destination – Little India – and it really looks like it!! Very random, full of Indians and lots of temples – hardly any Singaporeans about – weird!
The hostel is called The Hive and it looks like a funky wee place on the corner of this busy road. I particularly like the sign on the door ‘TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT. SURVIVORS WILL BE SHOT AGAIN!’ – haha – great, I’m slightly dubious about the safety of this place now…..
We get shown to our dorm and it’s big with about 8 bunk beds in it. One Indian guy is asleep on his bunk and beneath Dave’s bunk is a Buddhist monk. We’re all shattered and decide to have a kip for an hour or so.
Argh – we wake up at 9pm!! Man, must’ve needed that! A quick shower and change and out to Clarke Quay to show Aaron the price of beer. We get the subway there and have a nice meander around the quay. This place is too cool for skool – very George Street in Edinburgh x 10!! There’s a funky bar called Clinic which is based on a hospital ward – there are gold sprayed wheelchairs for chairs, the tables are operating tables and the lights are those big magnified things which peer down when you’re having an operation – how random is that!??!
We eventually bite the bullet and sit down at this place Yello Jello and cough up £6 for a glass of beer – LOL!!!! Never again are we paying this much!! However, its been a long ass day and we will sip this beer very slowly. People have so much money around this place and everyone oozes expensive taste – I HATE IT!! Haha – if I had won the lottery I would luv it, alas I’m a backpacker on a strict Dave budget….
It’s getting late and we’re all hungry. I put the foot down and say no to fast food chains so we head back and aim to pick up some street meat on the way back to the hostel. Argh, by the time we get there – it’s almost midnite and everywhere is shut – not good! Oh well, it wont kill us to miss a meal!
